How to Dress a Midlife Belly Without Hiding It

The 3 anti-pooch styling tricks that changed everything after 40.

If your belly has become the HARDEST part of getting dressed, I GET IT! ❤️

I used to think bigger shirts and longer sweaters were the answer. But they often made me look even boxier!

Then I realized my body wasn’t the problem. My clothes just needed to work WITH it!

That’s why I created Outfit Physics™: LIFT • SKIM • BALANCE.

Here are 3 easy ways to make it work!

1. LIFT: Draw the Eye Upward With Jewelry

One of my favorite anti-pooch tricks has NOTHING to do with my belly!

Try this: Add a statement necklace or bold gold earrings to a simple outfit. They create a focal point around your face and make even a basic top feel more polished.

The anti-pooch trick: Use eye-catching jewelry to draw attention UP instead of adding more fabric to cover your middle.

2. SKIM: Try a Stand-Up Collar or Funnel Neck

If oversized sweaters make you feel boxy, try THIS instead!

Try this: Find a cardigan or jacket with a stand-up collar or funnel neck. The neckline draws the eye upward, while a structured fit helps skim your belly without clinging.

Wear it open over a simple top to create vertical lines that visually lengthen your torso.

The anti-pooch trick: Look for fabric that holds its shape and gently skims your middle instead of adding bulk.

3. BALANCE: Change Your Jeans, Not Your Body

If your jeans fit your legs but squeeze your belly, you KNOW the struggle!

Try this: Swap skinny jeans for a straight-leg or flare silhouette. The extra width below your hips helps visually balance a fuller middle.

Look for a waistband that lies comfortably against your belly without digging or creating a gap at the back.

Pair them with a top that ends near your high hip to keep your proportions balanced.

The anti-pooch trick: Add width BELOW your belly, not extra bulk ON TOP of it!
